Sushi Calories – More Than A Mars Bar!

Before you go thinking all fish is considered healthy, you may want to check these sushi calories first! It turns out that those little, tasty rolls pack quite a wallop in the calorie department. I’m talking a real wallop – like more calories than a Mars bar! Surprised? Yeah, so are most people.

First, consider that sushi is wrapped in white rice, which by itself isn’t exactly a great choice. For people looking to trim down, it’s probably wise to avoid simple sugars of this kind all together, if possible.

There are brown rice sushis, so these are already a healthier option. Still, though, there are some serious calories to contend with. For example, an eel and avocado roll has 372 calories and 17.5g of fat!

Granted, much of this is “good” fat, but still, that’s a whole lot of calories for one tiny roll of sushi! And, if you make the mistake of getting something fried, you’re in even bigger trouble. Remember that shrimp tempura roll you ate? Well, I’m sorry to break the news to you, but it had 544 calories and 13g of fat in it!

This is not to say that you should avoid eating sushi completely, but, it’s not something you want to indulge in too frequently. Oh yeah, not to kick a fish while he’s down, but another bit of bad news regarding sushi – it’s typically very high in mercury relative to healthier fish options like salmon.

Still, this does not mean that sushi is the enemy. Just try to be more discerning when it comes to what kind you eat. If you’re still not sure, a much healthier alternative is to go with the sashimi, which leaves out the rice (although it still carries the same mercury risk).

The Advantages of Online Sports Betting

Just one short decade ago, it was virtually impossible to engage in legal sports betting if you live in the United States or in Canada. Both countries prohibit betting on almost all organized sports, in any form at all. The exceptions have always been parimutuel betting, which is only applied to two or three different sports (among them dog and horse racing).

Outside of those sports, the only legal bets one could place on sports in North America had to be made in the state of Nevada. For whatever reason, sports betting seemed like a reasonable thing to do deep in the desert, but nowhere else.

The coming of age of the Internet has changed the face of sports betting forever. First of all, it has opened up whole new opportunities for those interested in making legal wagers on their favourite teams or events. No longer does a person have to wait to make a trip to Las Vegas in order to place a bet on the Final Four during March Madness. Instead, those bets can be placed with a Vegas bookmaker online, from the comfort of one’s own home.

And Vegas is not the only town in on the online sports betting action. All over the world, major bookmakers have opened online sites for those wishing to place a wager. This means that you can place a bet on virtually any sport in the world, from American football to lacrosse, in any league you want be it amateur or professional.

Of course, the governments of some nations (America in particular) are concerned with the prevalence of online sports gambling, so there are some sites which will not take bets from American customers. However, there are plenty that will, at least until the legality of the practice is determined by the governing bodies of the nation.

In the meantime, though, sports betting online means that there is more money floating around than ever before, all thanks to ease of access.

Aside from the many options offered by the number of bookies online alone, those wishing to engage in football betting, basketball betting, or placing bets on any other type of sport can also take advantage of alternate betting opportunities. Traditionally, sports bets have had to be made through a bookmaker. This business sets the odds and takes a cut of the action as well. The rise of the online betting exchange, however, has meant that bettors can make or take their own odds, often increasing the value of their bets. There are also opportunities to bet against a team or individual in a sports betting exchange, rather than just on a team to win.

Finally, online access means that people betting on sports have more information at their fingertips which can help them decide which bets to make. Sports information lines have up to the minute records of teams, statistics, rosters, and odds which can all factor into the responsible gambler’s bet day decisions.

The growth of the Internet has revolutionized many different industries, and sports betting is certainly among them. More information and a lot more options are two of the main strengths of online sports betting.

How To Increase Hits On Your Personal Sports Website

For those sports people who are looking to gain the edge over their competitors by having a personal sports website, further opportunities exist to increase their profile and fanbase by driving more visitors to their website. A personal sports website should be thought of as a store – the more people you can get through your door, the greater the probability that someone will buy your product. Whether sports people are looking for sponsorship, a scholarship, coaching opportunities or to increase their fanbase, it may prove beneficial for them to invest some time attracting visitors to their site.

Increasing hits on a personal sports website can be achieved in many ways. One of the most effective tools to help spread the word is a business card. A simple business card with the person’s name, sport (i.e. Professional Baseball Player), website address and email address should be handed out to as many people as possible. People are more likely to keep a business card and visit the website than keep that paper napkin with the website address written on it – it’s pretty obvious as to what creates a better impression. Professional looking business cards are not too expensive and can be designed and ordered online.

Promotional products are another great idea for attracting visitors to a personal sports website. Many of the online business card companies offer inexpensive or sometimes free promotional products such as customized calendars, pens, mugs, note pads, sticky notes, fridge magnets, greeting cards etc. Whether ordered online, created in the local stationary supplies store or printed at home, calendars provide sports people with the opportunity to have their name and website address on someone’s desk or wall for 12 months!

Sports people who have their own personal sports website realize the important role the internet plays in today’s world. More and more people are socializing, shopping and searching online, which presents a great opportunity for sports people to drive traffic to their site. Social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook are fun places to connect with new and old friends. Sports social networking sites are becoming increasingly popular and should be searched for through search engines. Through social networking, sports people can inform others of their goals and more importantly invite visitors to their site.

Free advertizing for a personal sports website can be achieved through active involvement in blogs and forum websites. Sports persons should use search engines to find the most popular blogs and forum websites in their chosen sports and register with them if possible. Many of the blogs websites allow anyone to post a blog and virtually all forum websites allow people to participate. Sports people should think about their experiences and knowledge of their game to create interesting content for a blog. Typically, there is a place in their article to describe themselves and insert a link to their website. The more people read their blog, the more chances they have of readers visiting their site. Active participation in forums also helps to increase awareness of a person’s sports website and increase hits.

Many people may have heard the term SEO when reading about increasing hits on a website. Search Engine Optimization is a process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website via natural results from search engines for certain keywords. This can be a very complex and expensive process; however, a sports person should ensure that their website at the very least contains their chosen keywords and that the text content of their website can be read by search engine robots. Search engine robots search websites for the words entered into their search engines and will list all websites containing those words when someone searches for them. Those who have personal sports websites should think about the type of keywords or phrases that might attract their target audience to their site. Obvious keywords or phrases include the sports person’s name, sport, major achievements (i.e. “2006 World Tennis Champion”), town, city, country and certain goals (i.e. “tennis lessons” for someone looking to gain more clients). With so many other websites out there today, it is extremely difficult to drive traffic to a personal sports website from search engines unless people are searching for a specific person’s name; however, basic SEO should always be considered.

Of course, once sports people have driven traffic to their sites, the next most important thing is to entice people to visit again. This is where it is important to update the content of the site on a regular basis. Certain text such as achievements and goals will generally remain the same; however, text relating to latest news or schedule should be updated on a regular basis to avoid visitors returning to the site only to see the same old information. Another tip to attract return visitors is to add wording such as “check back on my site next week when I will update you on my recent experiences playing in the XYZ event in some town”. The date of the last update is also something that should be considered.

With a little time and effort, sports people can take a step closer to achieving their career goals by having a personal sports website that attracts and maintains repeat visitors. Sports people should establish their target audience based upon their goals and decide upon the most suitable methods to attract visitors to their site. One particular visitor may make all the difference!

Hockey Betting For Sports Betting Beginners

If you read our article on general sports betting for beginners, then you know that one of our cardinal rules is to bet on sports that you know something about. While intimate knowledge of a sport will not necessarily lead to profit at the end of any given betting season, it can certainly help. In this article, we are going to provide some information and tips for those who want to bet on hockey.

Types of bet:

Like sports betting on any sport, betting on hockey can get pretty much as complicated as you would like. Because we are just focusing on those starting out, however, this article is going to outline the two most basic bets that can be made with books on professional hockey games.

The first type of bet is known as the money line. It looks like this:

Vancouver Canucks -120
Edmonton Oilers +120

The Vancouver Canucks are the favorite team in this example. If you bet on them, you have to put down $120 for every $100 you earn. So, if you wager $240 and the Canucks win the game, you will get $440 back (your $240 plus $200 as the payout).

If, on the other hand, you think the Oilers are going to win the game, then the money line indicates how much you can win for every $100 you bet. Betting $100 on the Oilers means that if they won, you would receive $220 (your $100 bet plus $120 payout).

Some people like to increase the amount of money they can win betting on a hockey game through the odds, and you can do that by betting on the puck line. It works in the same way a spread does. In order to collect on the wager, the team you bet on has to win by a certain number of goals. Conversely, if you bet on the underdog, then you can collect if they lose by less than the specified number of goals.

We don’t recommend betting the puck line for beginners, as it is hard enough to predict even for those who have been sports betting for a while!

A few hockey betting tips:

o Hone your expertise first: Before you start wagering money on a game by game basis, it is a good idea to increase your knowledge of the game. You can have the excitement of a wager plus increase your knowledge of the game by joining a hockey pool with friends before going to the sports books.

o Bet the playoffs: This is another way that hockey betting rookies can decrease their losses at first. Predicting the outcome of any game is tough, especially in hockey when scores are so close and so many factors come into play. Those with some hockey sense can usually figure out who is going to come out ahead round by round in the playoffs, so betting on series is better than betting on individual games.

o Do your research: When you are ready to start betting individual regular season games, make sure you get some information before placing your bets. Knowing who is injured, who is hot, and a team’s record against another team can all help you place a winning bet.

Sports Blog – Make Serious Money From Sports And Online Marketing

Do you have a passion for sports and have considered starting a sports blog for the fun of it? Or do you already have a sports blog and want it to be more than just a hobby? There are a lot of blogs out there about different niche interests such as travel, food, and even fashion which all make some serious money just by applying a few online marketing principles while they blog about their passions.

Now if your passion lies with sports and you love sharing about the latest results or news about athletes or merely just discussing your opinion about something, then the concept of a sports blog should be pretty easy for you to apply. But of course, just by reading this you may be either doubtful that you can make good money doing it or you’re already aware that it’s possible but believe that it may be a bit complicated to set up and get going.

Of course if you ever thought about selling your own products on a sports blog then that would be a good idea. There are many people already selling sporting equipment and goods online such as golf clubs, footballs, gear, pads, you name it. With the advent of online businesses, a lot of people are already retailing goods online. But you probably already thought of this yourself.

But did you also know that you can make money from a sports blog even without selling your own products? You don’t even have to worry about that at all. People who do Google AdSense or even affiliate marketers know this very well. All they really do is drive traffic and build their audiences while they make money.

It’s very similar to how TV programs or magazines make a lot of their money. The make a lot of advertising revenue. All they do is get a lot of people to see their content and they slip around some commercials in between. That’s how you can make money just through blogging about sports.

You can just get a simple WordPress blog and add a few plugins to optimize it for search engines and then just post whatever content you like that’s relevant. If you like, you can even load Google AdSense which allows you to let Google load up your blog with ads and you get a tiny bit of commission every time someone clicks on it.

Believe it or not, you can sell other things on a sports blog that you never created yourself. Sound too good to be true? It’s actually simple. You take a product that’s already done by someone else and sell it for them for commissions. Of course you will need to find a good product to sell and one that’s relevant to your sports blog. A lot of ClickBank and Amazon products are popular for a lot of home business owners and online marketers alike.

The main thing that you really need to know when making money with a sports blog is how to drive traffic and build a big audience. It all starts with simply building a list. Once you learn some simple strategies on how to do that, then you will have no trouble making money from a sports blog even if you have no technical experience whatsoever!

How To Earn Money With Your Sports Related Blog

SEO for a Baseball site

The differences in search engine optimizing a sports site vs a site selling a product or a typical internet marketing blog are multifold. No disrespect meant to most of the internet blogging community but it seems that the majority of their traffic is amongst each other, dropping comments, entrecards, blogcatalog images, etc. The traffic is nice indeed but when it comes time how many actual monetize the visitors.

The sport in question, Baseball (although all sports will apply) has a different make-up. From a visitor standpoint those likely to visit your blog will have to have interest in the sport and usually the type of content, whether it be team, player, fantasy sports based, etc. A focus will help you to appeal to a targeted set of readers. You can gain success being a jack of all trades but this takes multiple writers and view points.

When it comes time to monetize these blogs many make the mistake of taking up too much space with Google AdSense ads. These ads typically pay very little per click, as there isn’t a whole lot of competition out there. Also there keywords are primarily for baseball tickets, gloves and even the dreaded low paying eBay standard ad. Certainly there has to be a better way to gain some revenue from your blog.

The number one source of revenue can be from the ticket brokers themselves. Typically they will contact you for a chance to advertise with a standard form letter. Here’s an actual e-mail that I received on for one of my sites (with the service & site deleted)

“To whom it may concern:

My name is Kay and I am with DELETED, an online ticket brokerage. If possible, my company is interested running a text link advertising campaign on your website. We are looking for 1-6 month contracts. In addition please let us know where the placement of the ad will be. We would prefer to be close as possible to the top left hand side of the page, and be featured on your home page only.

Please let me know if you are interested and also provide rates and terms.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

P.S. If you own or operate any other relevant sites that have advertising opportunities please include those in your response.”

As you can see they attempt to leave the ball in your court. Usually these ads can be tucked away in one of your sites sidebars, which shouldn’t really interfere with your readers. The size of your blog, its page rank and the usual traffic that you bring in are all factors in the amount you can charge. Typically a block of 4 links can be sold to these outlets for $100 per 6 months. Nothing to make you quit your day job but if you eventually get four or five ticket services (which many blogs do) you have the chance at earning over $1000 per year for your work.
